Am. Gole et al., A GRAPHICAL ELECTROMAGNETIC SIMULATION LABORATORY FOR POWER-SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PROGRAMS, IEEE transactions on power systems, 11(2), 1996, pp. 599-606
The recent availability of Electromagnetic Transient Programs with gra
phical front ends now makes it possible to put together models for cir
cuits and systems in a manner similar to the connection of components
in a laboratory. In the past, the non-graphical EMT Programs required
considerable expertise in their use and thus distracted the students i
nto the details of simulation. The introduction of a graphical simulat
ion based laboratory into Undergraduate and Graduate Engineering Progr
ams is presented, based on the PSCAD/EMTDC program, The philosophy beh
ind the design of suitable example cases is presented within the frame
work of an Undergraduate Power Electronics Course, an HVdc Transmissio
n Course and a course on Power System Protection.
