Abstract
A new modal performance measure for power system stabilizer (PSS) opti mization is proposed in this paper. The new method is based on modifyi ng the square envelopes of oscillating modes, in order to take into ac count their damping ratios while minimizing the performance index. Thi s criteria is applied to flexible controllers optimal design, on a mul ti-input-multi-output (MIMO) reduced-order model of a prototype power system. The multivariable model includes four generators, each having one input and one output. Linear time-response simulation and transien t stability analysis with a non-linear package confirm the superiority of the proposed criteria and illustrate its effectiveness in decentra lized control.
