Aa. Zaghloul, DISSOCIATION-CONSTANTS AND THERMODYNAMIC PARAMETERS OF THE FIRST AND THE 2ND DISSOCIATION REACTIONS OF SUCCINIC ACID IN 20-PERCENT (V V) DIOXAN/, Afinidad, 53(462), 1996, pp. 123-126
pK1 and pK2 values of succinic acid at zero ionic strength have been d
etermined in 20% (v/v) dioxan at different temperatures (30-60 degrees
C) from e.m.f. measurements of, glass electrode, HCl, buffer, AgCl, A
g cell. The thermodynamic properties (Delta G degrees, Delta H degrees
, and Delta S degrees) for the first and the second dissociation react
ions have been computed, discussed and analyzed in terms of solute-sol
vent interactions. Delta H degrees-Delta S degrees correlation indicat
es that the first dissociation reaction is entropy controlled and reve
als the existence of compensation effect in the second dissociation re
action.
