Abstract
The authors discuss parametrised performance models for distributed me mory machines with particular emphasis on transputer networks. Overhea ds are decomposed into three categories, namely scheduling, communicat ion and synchronisation. The degradation resulting from each type of o verhead is expressed as an efficiency parameter and half-performance p arameters are derived for communication and synchronisation overheads.
