Electron-molecule collisions play a significant role in chemical trans
formations in a silent electric discharge. The reaction rate coefficie
nts of electron-molecule collisions in various gaseous mixtures of Ar,
N-2 or CO with O-2 have been investigated. These coefficients can be
determined experimentally and calculated theoretically. The measured v
alues are in good agreement with those calculated by theoretical metho
ds. The reaction rate coefficients of electron-O-2, molecule collision
s increase with decrease of the amount of O-2 in Ar/O-2 mixtures, but
decrease with decrease of the amount of O-2 in N-2/O-2 or CO/O-2 mixtu
