Abstract
Very high energy (VI-IE) gamma ray astronomy has now produced after ma ny decades of searching the first high confidence observations of cosm ic sources. A short survey of the physics targets in this field, the e xperimental techniques and some results will be presented. Prospects f or detector improvements and astrophysical discoveries will be discuss ed.
