Abstract
The rate coefficients for the reactions of O-, Cl-, and O-2(-) with HN O3 were measured to be (3.6 +/- 0.9), (2.8 +/- 0.7), and (2.9 +/- 0.8) x 10(-9) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1), respectively, at 295 K using the f lowing afterglow technique. NO3- was the only product ion identified f or each of these reactions. The measured rate coefficients for the O- and Cl- reactions are larger than previously reported. The implication s of these results for active chemical ionization mass spectrometry (A CIMS) measurements of HNO3 in the upper atmosphere are discussed.
