A method of sound equalization for sound reproduction that yields a wi
der equalized area compared with that of the conventional approach is
proposed in this paper. In addition to the control of transfer functio
ns from the sound sources to the original receiving points, the deriva
tives of the transfer functions evaluated at the original receiving po
ints are constrained to be zero. By employing these derivative constra
ints, the variation of the transfer function in the vicinity of the or
iginal points becomes small, resulting in a wider equalized area, whic
h contributes to the robustness of the system in relation to movement
of the listener. Moreover, an index useful in finding the optimum cont
rol source location, which is obtained by analysing the condition numb
er of the coefficient matrix of the control equation, is also describe
d.
