Fr-209 has been produced by irradiation of Au-197 with O-16, and studi
ed using a He-jet recoil tape transport system. A decay scheme is prop
osed for the first time, based on X-gamma and gamma-gamma coincidence
measurements, which takes account of 20 observed gamma-rays. The branc
hing ratio for (EC+beta(+)) decay of Fr-209 has been estimated to be 3
.0 +/- 1.5%. Five members of low-lying states in Rn-209 can be explain
ed with the configuration [(Rn-210 2(+))(nu f5/2)(-1)].
