Abstract
The plasmalemma of young hyphae of Achlya bisexualis male cultured wit h and without monensin was isolated for the first time by free-flow el ectrophoresis. The membrane fractions were characterized enzymically a nd by electron microscopy. Monensin was found to lead to a reduction i n the activities of numerous enzymes, the proportions of sterols and p roteins, and sterol/phospholipid and protein/lipid ratios.
