Abstract
Two kinetically distinct types of oxygen atoms can be identified durin g the isothermal oxidation of CO on Pt(111) even though they all sit i n identical sites at the start of the reaction. This is explained by a lowering in the reaction activation barrier with oxygen islanding. (C ) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
