Abstract
Three recent cases of chloramphenicol-resistant pyogenic meningitis ar e reported from Malawi. The implications of the emergence of antibioti c-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influe nzae type b causing childhood meningitis are discussed.
