J. Krasnick et al., IDIOPATHIC ANAPHYLAXIS IN CHILDREN MANIFESTED AS UPPER AIRWAY-OBSTRUCTION, Pediatric asthma, allergy & immunology, 10(1), 1996, pp. 29-33
Pediatric idiopathic anaphylaxis has previously been reported and medi
cal management defined in 15 patients.((1,2)) We report 3 cases of ped
iatric idiopathic anaphylaxis, each sharing upper airway obstruction a
s one of the presenting symptoms, The patients were managed with a pro
gram of oral prednisone, sympathomimetics, antihistamines, and inhaled
corticosteroids with a favorable outcome, Pediatric idiopathic anaphy
laxis must be included in the differential diagnosis of children prese
nting with upper airway obstruction, Inhaled corticosteroids may provi
de a protective benefit from further episodes of airway obstruction du
e to idiopathic anaphylaxis.
