A method for solving boundary-value problems in the nonlinear mechanic
s of a deformable body is suggested. The method is based on experiment
al data on the coordinates of the nodes of a dividing grid in the init
ial and strained states and the general nonlinear theory of elasticity
and plasticity. A quantitative solution is obtained for the problem o
f the actual strains and stresses in a rubber ring cured to a metal cy
linder and pressed in a metal guide bushing.
