Abstract
Subgingival resorptive lesions in feline teeth were examined with ligh
t microscopy and contact microradiography and nondecalcified ground se
ctions of intact mandibular feline teeth. Further study with light mic
roscopy on decalcified celloidin specimens revealed histopathological
details in the resorptive lesions. Data indicates the lesions originat
ed from subgingival sites of the buccal side with a sma# lesion on the
surface and an extensive resorption within the tooth. Resorptive lesi
ons were induced by granulation tissue. Numerous odontoclasts in the g
ranulation tissues were arranged regularly along the edge of resorptiv
e lesions of the decalcified celloidin sections. Compared to the vicin
ity of the alveolar bone, resorptive lesions were more extensive and o
f a higher severity in the cervix of affected teeth. In the nondecalci
fied ground sections, contact microradiogram revealed decalcification
was not present in the dentine, suggesting the resorptive lesions were
not derived from dental caries.
