For each of the aqueous electrolytes, whose acid-base behaviour is des
cribed by only one acidic, and only one basic, ionization equilibrium,
the electroneutrality equation is rearranged (as described in Appendi
x) to such a form that the successive-substitution algorithm to which
it can give origin always converges to the root of the corresponding e
quation, i. e., to the hydrogen-ion concentration of the solution it r
efers to. The converging properties of these algorithms are given a qu
alitative explanation.
