The spectroscopic properties of Eu(III) ions in two stoichiometric KEu
(MoO4)(2) and KEu(WO4)(2) crystals were examined. Based on the absorpt
ion spectra the intensity analysis of f-f transitions was performed. T
he energy schemes of Eu3+ ions in both the systems were settled. Disti
nct vibronic sidebands accompanying the hypersensitive transitions wer
e observed in absorption, emission and excitation spectra for both the
systems being more pronounced for tungstate crystals. Using the data
of vibrational analysis the assignment of vibronic transitions was pro
posed. Temperature quenching of emission in the range 15 - 300 K was s
ignificant for the molybdate crystal and hardly observed for the tungs
tate crystal.
