Tm. Benson et al., HIGHLY ACCURATE VECTOR CORRECTION FOR OPTICAL WAVE-GUIDE PROPAGATION CONSTANTS, IEE proceedings. Part J, Optoelectronics, 140(2), 1993, pp. 93-97
A vector correction is derived to the propagation constants obtained f
rom a polarised analysis of graded-index optical waveguides. This gene
ral formula is reduced to a form suitable for use with semiconductor r
ib and strip-loaded waveguides. Corrected propagation constants calcul
ated for a range of semiconductor rib waveguide structures coincide wi
th available results from a full vector approach. Moreover, the vector
correction term is always small, underpinning the accuracy of the sim
ple and fast polarised approach for the first time.
