Thermostable TiO2-fixed montmorillonite with 1.74-1.5 nm distance betw
een basal planes and 250-320 m(2) . g(-1) specific surface was synthes
ized by the ion-exchange reaction of Na-substituted montmorillonite wi
th titanium hydroxy cations. The influence of the synthesis conditions
, the structural isomorphism of a clay mineral, and the nature of the
exchange cations on the physicochemical properties of the resulting ma
terial was studied.
