Abstract
Methods for constructing the basis sets of sp(3) hybrid atomic orbital s for atoms surrounded with four neighboring atoms are discussed in de tail. The results obtained are generalized as a theorem of sp(3) hybri dization. A general method is proposed for constructing basis sets of orthogonal sp(3) hybrid atomic orbitals for atoms with distorted tetra hedral environments.
