The Second American Nuclear Society Workshop on the Safety of Soviet-D
esigned Nuclear Power Plants was held in Washington, D.C., in November
1994. The workshop consisted of both plenary sessions and working ses
sions with 300 participants overall. All countries with operating Sovi
et-designed nuclear power plants were represented, and representatives
from several other countries also participated. In addition to the st
atus and plans related to technical issues, the workshop also included
discussions of economic, political, legal, and social issues as they
relate to the safety of these nuclear power plants.
