A number of Ar(3)MOMPh(3) compounds containing Group IVB metals were
synthesized or generated in solution. On the basis of F-19 NMR data fo
r (4-FC6H4)(3)SnOMPh(3) compounds, the relative polarities of the M-O
bonds and relative electronegativities of the Ph(3)M groups were evalu
ated and the latter values were found to correlate with the of the cen
tral metal atoms. The variation of the shielding of the heavy nuclei i
n Ph(3)SnOMPh(3) and Ph(3)PbOMPh(3) does not reflect the variation in
the electron density on the tin and lead atoms.
