La. Romano et al., HIGH CORRELATION IN RENAL TISSUE BETWEEN COMPUTED IMAGE-ANALYSIS AND CLASSICAL MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS, Journal of histotechnology, 19(2), 1996, pp. 121-123
Recent morphometric analysis of histological structures has been perfo
rmed with computerized image analyzers, thus supplying previously unkn
own information. However, conventional methods are still used because
few research centers have investigators trained in this technique. The
basic objective of this study was to compare studies on renal tissues
obtained both by the conventional method and the computerized analysi
s. We concluded that both methods are useful, in spite of some differe
nces found in certain parameters, such as the glomerular diameter and
the percentage of glomerular area per glomerulus. The similarity of th
e results of area measurements and of glomerular sclerosis is emphasiz
ed.
