Pjm. Peters et al., THE HALL-EFFECT IN A CLASSICAL 2-DIMENSIONAL ELECTRON-GAS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL CONTACTS, Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 5(22), 1993, pp. 3587-3592
Measurements of the phase shift between current and voltage as a funct
ion of magnetic field are reported for electrodes in an array which ar
e capacitively coupled to the two-dimensional electron gas on liquid h
elium. It is experimentally shown that the phase of the current at the
extreme edge of the sample decreases with magnetic field when the Hal
l angle comes close to 90-degrees. It is shown that this is a direct c
onsequence of the unusual condition of total charge conservation for a
n electrically isolated sample.
