Abstract
Simple models of length and time measuring instruments are studied in order to see under what conditions a relativistic description of the d ynamics of accelerated motion can be consistent with the kinematic pre scriptions of Lorentz contraction and time dilation. The outcomes obta ined for the measuring rod are compared with a thought experiment prop osed by Dewan and Beran.
