A true unit-connected generator-HVdc convertor scheme is proposed whic
h removes the need to use two bridges in series to achieve twelve-puls
e operation. Moreover, the combination of a single main bridge and an
auxiliary feedback dc ripple reinjection bridge is shown to increase t
he pulse number from 6 to 18. This is achieved purely by natural commu
tation and is equally valid for rectification and inversion. The theor
etical waveforms are validated by extensive experimental verification.
