Abstract
As a result of the Monte Carlo simulation of particle transport throug h fissile media, the neutron yield per nucleon of the incident particl e is highest for a deuteron beam and sharply decreases for beams of he avier ions. However, this conclusion contradicts experiments with a le ad target. Possible reasons of such a disagreement are discussed.
