G. Balvay, EVOLUTION OF KNOWLEDGE ON THE ROTATORIA A ND ENTOMOSTRACA OF LAKE GENEVA, Archives des sciences et compte rendu des seances de la Societe, 49(1), 1996, pp. 37-44
There is much knowledge about the Rotatoria and Entomostraca of Lake G
eneva (Lake Leman) and it is increasing continuously. However, there h
as been little new information developped about the Ostracods and Harp
acticoids since 1922 and 1966, respectively. The decrease in the numbe
r of taxonomists, a lack of recent studies concerning some ecosystem c
ompartments and functionnal components of the food web, specialized re
search on narrow topics; and a deficiency in the education of students
entering the field in ecology, ethology and taxonomy, all may lead to
the lack of understanding of whole-lake Geneva ecosystem.
