Abstract
Ytterbium and samarium-benzophenone complexes react with 1-alkynes to generate lanthanide(II) acetylides having diphenylmethoxo ligand. It h as been found that these acetylides act as reductants as well as nucle ophiles, depending on the electrophiles used. Thus, their reaction wit h aldehydes and aliphatic ketones gives propargylic alcohols in good y ields, while, with aromatic ketones and alkyl halide, the reductive co upling products are obtained selectively.
