The study of the mechanism of the processes taking place in photocross
linking of the homopolymer of dicyclopentenyl acrylate (DCPA), was rea
lized using ultraviolet and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurem
ents. Different kinetics of crosslinking in the presence and absence o
f benzophenone prove the efficiency of this photosensitive system. The
particular structure of the acrylic matrix of poly(DCPA), i.e., the p
resence of a residual unsaturated bond and a cyclic structure, reveals
its high photooxidation potential (hydroperoxyde formation as detecte
d by FTIR between 3 300 and 3 600 cm(-1)).
