Mr. Churchill et al., SYNTHESIS OF CIS-[RU(4,4'-(T-BU)(2)BPY)(2)(PPH(3))CL-] AND THE CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF ITS DISORDERED HEMIACETONITRILE, HEMITOLUENE SOLVATE(][CLO4), Journal of chemical crystallography, 26(4), 1996, pp. 267-275
The complex cis-[Ru{4,4'-(t-Bu)(2)bpy}(2)(PPh(3)Cl+][ClO4-]. 0.5(tolue
ne). 0.5(MeCN), where 4,4'-(t-Bu)(2)bpy = 4,4'-di(t-butyl)-2,2'-bipyri
dyl, crystallizes with an ordered racemic mixture of the chiral cation
s in the centrosymmetric triclinic space group <P(1)over bar> (No. 2).
The structure was refined to R = 4.42% for those 6426 reflections wit
h 2 theta = 5-50 degrees and \F-o\ > 6 sigma(F). Ruthenium ligand dist
ances are Ru-Cl = 2.423(2)Angstrom, Ru-PPh(3) = 2.346(2)Angstrom and R
u-N = 2.056(4)-2.098(4)Angstrom. Both the Ru(II)-containing cation and
the perchlorate anion are ordered, but the toluene and acetonitrile e
xhibit an interesting type of scrambled disorder about the inversion c
enter at x = 1, y = 1/2, z = 0.
