Two complexes with 2,2'-diamine-4,4'-bithiazole (L), [cis-L(2)CoCl(2)]
. CH3OH and [cis-L(2)NiCl(2)]. CH3OH were synthesized and characterize
d by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy; The X-ray crystal structu
re of [cis-L(2)CoCl(2)]. CH3OH has been determined. The coordinated mo
lecules all contain a six-coordinated cobalt atom chelated by two 2,2'
-diamine-4,4'-bithiazole ligands and two Cl- ions in a cis arrangement
. The Co-N bond lengths range from 2.120 to 2.194 Angstrom and the Co-
C(I) bond lengths are 2.469 and 2.499 Angstrom. The effect of these co
mplexes on the DNA synthesis of sarcoma 180 tumour cells has been inve
stigated by the technique of isotopic liquid scintillation. The result
s indicated that complexes show ability to inhibit DNA synthesis of th
e tumour cells. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
