Abstract
A series of laboratory experiments was conducted to determine if denit rifying enzyme activity (DEA) was related to manganese (Mn) reduction. Reduction of Mn occurred after nitrate (NO3-) or nitrous oxide (N2O) reduction was near completion. Denitrifying enzyme activity was not di rectly related to Mn reduction. Rather, both DEA and Mn reduction were related to carbon (C) supply. The presence of acetylene tended to dec rease the rate of Mn reduction.
