Abstract
1. Activities of calpains I and II and calpastatin in two different ty pes of porcine skeletal muscles were compared. 2. Semimembranosus musc le was composed of mixed fiber types with mainly glycolytic fibers (65 %), while masseter muscle was composed exclusively of oxidative fibers . 3. Calpain I activity was lower and calpain II activity was higher i n masseter muscle as compared to semimembranosus muscle. Calpastatin a ctivities were similar in both muscles.
