Ys. Kim et al., NOTE ON THE COMPARISON OF CALPAINS I, II AND CALPASTATIN ACTIVITY IN 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF PORCINE SKELETAL-MUSCLES, Comparative biochemistry and physiology. Part A, Physiology, 105(2), 1993, pp. 235-237
1. Activities of calpains I and II and calpastatin in two different ty
pes of porcine skeletal muscles were compared. 2. Semimembranosus musc
le was composed of mixed fiber types with mainly glycolytic fibers (65
%), while masseter muscle was composed exclusively of oxidative fibers
. 3. Calpain I activity was lower and calpain II activity was higher i
n masseter muscle as compared to semimembranosus muscle. Calpastatin a
ctivities were similar in both muscles.
