Abstract
The pump-probe REMPI technique has been used for a study of the femtos econd dynamics of the allyl iodide (Al) molecule excited in the VUV re gion. The VUV radiation was produced by non-resonant quintupling of Ti :S laser radiation in the mercury vapour or xenon gas. The lifetime of the excited state (hv approximate to 7.8 eV) of AI was found to be 29 0 +/- 30 fs. The nature of the process governing this decay time is di scussed.
