Abstract
An inversion scheme is presented to derive the potentials of algebraic scattering theory from the corresponding S functions. Representative heavy ion scattering data of C-12, N-14, and 0-16 ions on Pb-208, accu rately fitted by McIntyre strong absorption type S functions, are empl oyed to obtain exact algebraic potentials and to generalize the analyt ical shapes proposed previously by Alhassid et al. The coordinate spac e potentials corresponding to a number of S functions are also obtaine d via semiclassical inversion. .
