A. Bertin et al., NEGATIVE RESULT OF AN EXPERIMENT AIMED AT VERIFYING A REPORT ON COLD NUCLEAR-FUSION IN SYSTEMS OF THE NAXWO3 (D D-T) TYPE/, Physics of atomic nuclei, 59(5), 1996, pp. 752-756
The results of an experiment aimed at verifying the conclusions drawn
in the studies that were performed at the Institute of Hi,oh-Temperatu
re Electrochemistry (IHE, Yekaterinburg) and which report the observat
ion of neutron emission due to low-temperature dd fusion in NaxWO3/deu
terium systems are presented. Within statistical errors, the excess of
the neutron yield above the background level is not observed in our e
xperiment for the interaction of deuterium and deuterium-tritium mixtu
re with oxide tungsten bronze. The hypothesis that hot dr fusion is po
ssible in such systems is not confirmed either. The results of this st
udy cast some doubt on the validity of the conclusions drawn in the ME
reports. At a 90% confidence level, an upper limit on the intensity I
-n, of a hypothetical neutron source associated with dd and dr fusion
in the single crystals of oxide tungsten bronze is estimated to be 5 x
10(-3) s(-1).
