Abstract
The resonant excitation of the Th-229 nucleus to the low-lying isomeri c level by optical photons is considered in the third order of QED per turbation theory. Analysis is performed for various relationships betw een the energy of photons and the energies of nuclear and atomic trans itions. The cross sections and yields of isomeric nuclei are calculate d for laser-irradiated targets.
