We calculate the electronic structure of quantum dots coupled along th
e growth direction with one or two electrons in magnetic fields. We ex
amine the spin transitions of the ground states and the optical transi
tions between the energy levels, which are associated with far-infrare
d absorption. Because of the dot-dot and electron-electron interaction
s, the coupled quantum dots exhibit rich electronic structures. We sug
gest that the effects of these interactions on the energy spectra are
observable by optical measurements because the transition energies exh
ibit discontinuous changes for a vertically polarized light as the mag
netic field increases.
