X-Ray structures of three co-crystals of 2,2'-(ethylenedioxy)-diethyla
mine, normally occuring in liquid phase, with two molecules of fumaric
- 1a, maleic - 1b, and one molecule of adipic acid - 1d, have been de
termined. Two conformations of the diamine molecule with different deg
rees of folding have been found in the crystal. Very selective molecul
ar recognition between diprotonated diamine 1 and dicarboxylic acid mo
lecules was observed in three crystal structures. Aggregates being bui
lding blocks of the cocrystals included one doubly protonated diamine
molecule and six diacid molecules at different protonation levels, hyd
rogen-bonded through carbonyl groups.
