This paper discusses the effect of impregnation conditions on the resu
lts of IDE pulping. The influence of the following factors in the impr
egnation stage was studied: a) NaOH concentrations 0.75 and 1.00 mol/l
, b) impregnation time 3 and 4 hours, and c) impregnation temperature
80 and 100 degrees C. The Na2CO3 concentration in the impregnation liq
uor was varied between 0 and 0.5 mol/l. The study shows that lowering
the Na2CO3 concentration results in pulp with a higher chlorine number
.
