2-Aminobenzophenonesalicyl aldazine (Habs) reacts with metal(II) aceta
te and yields the complexes M(abs)(2)(H2O)(2) [M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(
II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)]. The complexes were characterized by e
lemental analyses, molar conductance, molecular weight, magnetic susce
ptibility, electronic, ESR, IR and NMR spectral data. The electrical c
onductivity shows the non-ionic nature of the complexes. The magnetic
moment and electronic spectra suggest octahedral stereochemistry for t
he cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes. ESR data suggest tetragonal di
stortion in the copper(II) complex having a d(x)2(-y)2 ground state. I
nfrared spectra suggest banding through the phenoxy oxygen and azometh
ine nitrogen in the Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes and only the p
henoxy oxygen in the Mn(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes which is also
supported by NMR spectral studies.
