Solid oxygen-conducting electrolytes based on the tetragonal modificat
ion of zirconium dioxide in ZrO2-Dy2O3 and ZrO2-Ho2O3 systems are synt
hesized and investigated. Tetragonal solid solutions are found to exis
t in these systems in the regions with a R(2)O(3) content of 2.5-4 mol
%. At low temperatures, electroconductivity is weakly dependent on the
composition. At high temperatures (about 800 degrees C and above), th
e conductivity increases with the growing R(2)O(3) content. The activa
tion energy of conduction is diminished in the system containing dyspr
osium. This implies a higher mobility of oxygen vacancies in these ele
ctrolytes.
