H. Oku et al., FATTY-ACID AND LIPID-COMPOSITION INVITRO AND INVIVO OF RAT EPIDERMIS, Comparative biochemistry and physiology. B. Comparative biochemistry, 105(2), 1993, pp. 293-299
1. Fatty acid and lipid compositions of cultured rat keratinocytes wer
e compared with those of intact epidermis prepared from newborn and ad
ult rats. 2. The uniqueness of the lipid profile of cultured cell mani
fested itself in the accumulation of a novel lipid which co-migrated w
ith monoalkyldiacylglyceride on thin-layer chromatography. 3. Concentr
ation of the branched-chain fatty acid was specifically high in the ch
olesterol ester fraction of the intact cell, and was decreased by cult
ivation under submerged conditions.
