Avulsion fractures of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb metac arpophalangeal joint (bony skier's thumb) may result in chronic instab ility with pain and weakness of pinch if improperly treated, Managemen t requires an understanding of the relevant anatomy and careful clinic al examination including stress testing, Undisplaced, or minimally dis placed and stable fractures are treated conservatively, whereas displa ced, rotated and unstable fractures require surgical treatment.
