Lj. Anghileri et al., ROLE OF LIPID-PEROXIDATION IN IRON-INDUCED CELLULAR CALCIUM OVERLOAD, Biological trace element research, 52(2), 1996, pp. 163-169
Calcium overload is the common pathway leading to cell injury. The rol
e of iron-induced lipid peroxidation in the modification of Ehrlich ca
rcinoma cells calcium homeostasis has been studied. There is a lack of
correlation between that modification and the value of lipid peroxida
tion. The stability characteristics of low-mol-weight iron complexes a
ffect lipid peroxidation and, to a lesser extent, cellular calcium upt
ake. Lipid peroxidation appears not as a triggering factor of cellular
calcium homeostasis modification, but as a concomitant phenomenon.
