Abstract
Analysis of SPOT images of the Toba caldera region results in an estim ate of the rate of dextral strike-slip motion along the Great Sumatran Fault at about 23 +/- 3 mm/yr. In addition, we propose a model for th e evolution of the Toba caldera in an ancient step-over along the Grea t Sumatran Fault.
