Gj. Rao et al., DEVELOPMENT OF HYBRID METHOD COUPLING MOIRE INTERFEROMETRY AND FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS, Computers & structures, 60(3), 1996, pp. 433-440
A hybrid method of stress analysis coupling moire interferometry and f
inite element analysis to solve two-dimensional elasticity problems is
proposed. This method has the advantage of reliability of experimenta
l measurement and fastness of data reduction using the finite element
method. In this method, the moire fringe patterns of u and v displacem
ents are superimposed to form the optimal mesh pattern, ensuring the r
equired density and grading of mesh, The u and v displacements obtaine
d from moire fringe patterns are specified at the nodes to achieve rel
iability of results. The concept and mathematical formulation of the h
ybrid method are shown. The effectiveness of the method is tested on a
problem of a disk under diametrical compression, resulting in a theor
etical solution. A comparison of results indicates that the mesh forme
d by the hybrid method and analyzed by an eight-noded isoparametric el
ement provides accurate results and the same is also verified with sim
ulated moire fringes of another example of cantilever beam. Copyright
