Benign bone-forming tumors are common in children. Careful radiographi
c imaging is necessary to plan surgical treatment. Careful histologic
study is necessary to distinguish osteoblastoma from more aggressive t
umors. Osteoid osteoma should be considered when the child or adolesce
nt presents with pain in an extremity or along the spine.
