S. Husain et al., EVALUATION OF STEARYL-1-ALPHA-NAPHTHYL ACETATE AS A STATIONARY-PHASE FOR GAS-LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHY, INDIAN JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY, 3(4), 1996, pp. 234-236
Stearyl-1-alpha-naphthyl acetate has been prepared in the laboratory a
nd evaluated as a stationary phase for gas-liquid chromatography after
characterization by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Sev
eral organic compounds, viz., aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydr
ocarbons, cyclic ethers, alcohols, ketones and esters have been used a
s Lest solutes. Classification of the stationary phase according to Mc
Reynolds' method, Novak's thermodynamic approach and Snyder's selectiv
ity triangle has been carried out. The results reveal that the station
ary phase falls in the medium polar category. Industrially important c
ompounds with close boiling points are satisfactorily resolved on this
stationary phase. Investigations on the stability of the stationary p
hase showed that it is stable upto 140 degrees C. It is concluded that
stearyl-1-alpha-naphthyl acetate can be used as a versatile, easily a
vailable and cheap stationary phase for GLC.
